ABOUT SM-2 ALGORITHM
The SM-2 algorithm (SuperMemo 2, Piotr Wozniak 1987) schedules card reviews using the Ebbinghaus
forgetting curve. Cards rated AGAIN reset to interval=1. HARD/GOOD/EASY increase the interval
by the easiness factor (EF, starts at 2.5). After each review EF adjusts: high quality →
harder cards stay at same EF, low quality → EF decreases (minimum 1.3). The result is
exponentially increasing intervals — a card learned today, reviewed tomorrow, then in 6 days,
then 15, then 34 days… Long-term retention with minimal time investment.
